Post Let's talk about multiple choice marking
I sometimes teach very large university classes (100, 150, 200 students). Around the time our numbers shot up we decided to move to computer marked multiple choice marking, and it is my belief that multiple choice questions can be constructed so that the require thought, not just mindless memorization (though it takes a lot of work). Now we have moved away from that, which I am not pleased with. What do other people think of multiplce choice questions?

I think multiple choice questions are really helpful. Many peoples want to know more information with multiple questions. So they like it. sprachkurs

I like them (for some purposes) but there seems to be a bias against them, which is why it is worth talking about. Practically, when you have really large classes, marking can be a huge burden -- for example this semester I will have maybe 700 assignments and tests to mark (maybe more). Unfortunately none of these will be multple choice.
